Who Is The Holy Spirit?

Jason Kimbrow   -

At Legacy Church, we believe the Holy Spirit isn’t just a force or a feeling—He is a person. He is God. He is active, present, and wants to work in and through us every single day.

Many people wonder about the Holy Spirit—what He does, what He sounds like, and how to know if He’s working in our lives. Let’s explore together who the Holy Spirit is and how He empowers us to live the life God has called us to.

The Holy Spirit Is a Person

The Holy Spirit isn’t an “it.” He’s not an energy, emotion, or mystical vibe. He is the third person of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He has thoughts, emotions, and a will. He comforts, teaches, convicts, and empowers. He’s personal and relational.

Jesus said in John 14:16-17,

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.”

He’s not distant. He’s with us and in us.

The Holy Spirit Empowers Us

One of the greatest gifts Jesus gave us is the Holy Spirit. Before He ascended into heaven, Jesus told His disciples in Acts 1:8:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses…”

The Holy Spirit gives us power—not just to feel something spiritual, but to live boldly for Christ. To love deeply. To speak truthfully. To endure patiently. To witness courageously.

He helps us grow in our faith and equips us to serve others. Whether it’s praying for a friend, stepping into a leadership role, or sharing your story, the Holy Spirit is the one who strengthens and leads us.

The Holy Spirit Speaks

God is not silent, and neither is His Spirit. The Holy Spirit speaks to us through Scripture, through a sense of peace, through wise counsel, and even in a still small voice within.

Jesus said in John 16:13,

“When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth…”

He speaks to lead us closer to Jesus, never away. He may bring conviction to help us grow, comfort in times of pain, or clarity in moments of confusion.

If you’re unsure whether it’s the Holy Spirit speaking, ask:

  • Does it align with Scripture?
  • Does it point me to Jesus?
  • Does it produce peace, not fear?

The Holy Spirit Is for Today

Sometimes we treat the Holy Spirit like He’s only for Bible times—but that’s far from the truth. He is just as active today as He was in the stories we read in Scripture.

At Legacy Church, we believe the Spirit of God wants to move in our lives today—guiding us, filling us, and using us to bring hope to the world around us.

So here’s the question: Are you open to the Holy Spirit? Have you invited Him to fill you, lead you, and empower you?
